Women have been making significant strides in the tech industry, and it is vital that we celebrate their accomplishments and support their progress. At MEST, we have the privilege of training and working with many outstanding women in the tech industry across Africa. In anticipation of this year’s International Women’s Day Celebrations, we conducted polls to understand what really matters to women in tech. Our findings revealed three key areas that are especially important to women in tech:

  • Achieving financial independence
  • Job security and career fulfillment
  • Building strong networks, especially with other women

Job Security and Career Fulfilment

Job security and career fulfillment have become a rather sensitive yet crucial conversation for women in the tech industry, especially in light of recent layoffs by leading tech companies. The International Women’s Day celebration presents an opportunity for tech communities to investigate how this affects employed and unemployed females in the space. It is also a chance to rethink what their careers should look and feel like.

In light of this, we will be hosting an all-female career workshop as part of the National Women’s Expo and Summit by Charterhouse Ghana on the 8th of March at the Accra International Conference Center

Achieving Financial Independence

Financial independence is crucial for women in the tech industry, and the industry offers numerous opportunities for female entrepreneurs and professionals to leverage technology to start and grow successful businesses. However, it is important to bring women closer to the financial opportunities in the space and support them to grow and manage both personal and business finances. This is why we are hosting a webinar on “Making Money Moves as a Woman in Tech.”

Building Strong Networks

For most of the women we engaged through our surveys, having a network of supportive women is vital for personal and professional development. A network of supportive women helps women in tech share knowledge, exchange ideas, and collaborate on projects leading to professional growth and new business opportunities. We can bring women together and initiate the process of helping them establish great contacts with other women through cross-professional huddles, after-work happy hour sessions, and professional speed-dating sessions.

We look forward to bringing women at all levels of the tech space together over drinks and great conversations on 30th March 2023 to culminate the month’s celebration and also to build connections. Also, be on the lookout for the invitation and registration link soon!

Women have made significant contributions to the tech industry, and it is time to celebrate their accomplishments and support their progress. We hope that you will join us in empowering women in tech to achieve financial independence, job security, and career fulfillment, and building strong networks.
